Since the release of the Apple iPhone, Belkin has transformed itself from a manufacturer of PC accessories to a major player in the mobile device accessory market. The company offers a wide variety of cases and sleeves for Apple devices, including 13 accessories for the iPad. This review focuses on Belkin’s Grip Vue case for the Apple iPad.

Appearance:

The Grip Vue case is made of translucent silicone which gives the case a glossy texture. The case is available in either Royal Purple or Vivid Blue.  The Grip Vue case is thin, and doesn’t add much bulk to the iPad.

We’re not huge fans of silicone cases – the rubbery, often cheap-looking silicone material often detracts from the sleek design and styling of the iPad. This is a matter of taste of course, so if you don’t mind silicone cases you will not have a problem with the Grip Vue case.

Durability:

The silicone material of the Grip Vue is flexible and resilient, and it appears to be very durable.

Usability:

The design of the Grip Vue is simple, but Belkin did a good job getting the little things right. As the case’s name suggests, the exterior of the Grip Vue case has a sticky texture which provides a good grip.

The case also fits the iPad well. Unlike many other back cover-style cases, the sides of the Grip Vue do not peel off when held. The sides of the case also provide a nice ledge which makes it easy to operate the iPad with one hand, while reducing fingerprints on the device’s screen.

The Grip Vue case does make it a bit difficult to access the screen orientation lock button, however, especially if you have large fingers.

The Belkin Grip Vue case does not fit into the Apple iPad Dock.

Protection:

The Grip Vue covers all four sides of the iPad, as well as the back of the device. The silicone case provides good protection against scrapes and scratches, as well as some cushioning against drops.

Overall:

There’s not a lot of innovation with the Grip Vue case, but Belkin gets the little things right. We like how well the case fits the iPad, and features such as a ledge for your fingers and the case’s sticky material. Our only grip is the slightly difficult to access screen orientation switch.

We’re not crazy about the Grip Vue’s looks, but if you don’t mind a silicone case for your iPad, then you should definitely take a look at the Grip Vue.  We give this case three and a half stars.
